Our Beginnings: The Ultimate Side-Hustle

What prompted us to build a professional green cleaning company? We’re glad you asked!

Anna Tsantir, founder of Two Bettys, was working in the non-profit sector, putting in long hours for little pay. Sam Meyers, her eventual business partner, worked at an art supply store where raises came in five-cent increments.

They both wanted to work part-time so they could spend the rest of their time and energy in their art studios. They needed a job where they could make a living wage, set their own hours, and be respected by management. Finding nothing that fit that description, they created it themselves.
Anna and Sam founded Two Bettys Green Cleaning in 2006. They were the original Two Bettys.

When Sam passed away in 2013, Anna became the sole leader of Two Bettys. With a lot of hard work, Anna’s side hustle has undergone immense growth to become a thriving full-time business with 75+ team members.

In 2020, Adi Tam joined Anna to head up Two Bettys as CEO. With a background in the local and international hospitality industry, Adi’s leadership is defined by integrity and compassion. He is the perfect person to help steer the vision of Two Bettys into the future.

Green (Clean) From the Get-Go

Two Bettys was founded on the idea that people should be able to make a good living without endangering their health or the health of the planet.

When they began Two Bettys, our founders researched the ingredients in household cleaning products. They were shocked by what they learned (you’d be surprised how harmful chlorine bleach can be!), and that solidified their commitment to using non-toxic alternatives.

Upping Our Green Game

This was a great start, but we knew we could do better. In 2017, we implemented a year-long initiative to re-evaluate all of our cleaning tools and products. We learned about ingredients like myristyl glucoside (don’t worry, it comes from plants), and discovered that companies don’t have to disclose the ingredients in any fragrances they use (smells suspicious to us!).

As a result of this initiative, we:

  • Began buying cleaning solutions in concentrate

    and diluting them on-site, cutting down on plastic waste in a huge way. (Each 55-gallon drum allows us to refill a bottle 20,000 times!)

  • Cut back to one supply delivery per year,

    reducing our carbon footprint.

  • Eliminated a product

    whose complete ingredient list was impossible to track down.

  • Learned that two of our

    favorite products are manufactured by a company with a carbon-neutral facility

    that pays its employees a living wage. Sweet!

  • Opened our Refill Station,

    where we store our concentrated cleanser and a large inventory of tools and supplies.

Over the years, we’ve become green cleaning experts, and were invited to speak at the ISSA conference in 2025 to share our knowledge with other cleaning professionals. We’ve also become a Green America certified business!

But most importantly, we keep our cleaners fully equipped and ready to clean your home or business with non-toxic alternatives … all while minimizing our environmental impact.

Green Cleaning for the Future

Today, we continue to learn more about non-toxic alternatives to typical household cleaning products. And as we learn, we search out better products — for the planet and for our people.

Eco-friendly cleaning products aren’t just good for the environment — they’re also better for our employees. We’re committed to ensuring our Bettys don’t interact with toxic chemicals that would be harmful to their health.

We believe it’s not only possible to be good to people and the planet at the same time — it’s imperative. From the cloth napkins at HQ to the recycled plastic bottles we refill with cleaning solution, Two Bettys continues to find new and better ways to stay eco-friendly.

We don’t think it’s naïve to say that, through green cleaning homes and businesses, we can change the world.
